<image:caption>And finally at dusk, we were met with a final surprise. I bellowed in a gasp when I caught the sight of timid herds of deer scampering around us. It was too dark to note their species, but we would keep on seeing them for minutes across our path, so we had enough time for enhanced photographs, a great sight to end off the year.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Some while after crossing some stepping stones at a forested stream, we found this eerie dead grove, accompanied by packs of winter-dried ferns. I had a feeling that wildfire might’ve engulfed this part of the ancient forest long ago, never to recover, especially evident by what looks to be char and ash on the trees, though I could be wrong.</image:caption>

I distinguished the birds well from the typical crow with their large size and strange croaking noises. The first and last time I’ve noted a raven before this occasion was unexpectedly at our porch in August.</image:caption>

I and my brother found it appealing because it reminded us both of a miniature mangrove forest and a miniature lazy river you’d find at a water park. Imagine if we were tiny enough to experience its details.</image:caption>

<image:caption>A heartwarming dusk on the way back to the car. I just love the atmosphere of the British countryside and country life, all is peaceful, no dreadful sirens, no brashful teenagers on their phones, just nature and the calls of a menagerie of sweet little birds. It is a very nostalgic feeling I’ve always loved, especially in December, the route to Christmas, and the best and last month of the year. Thank you for viewing this Birdwatch Batch post, and stay tuned for the next one!</image:caption>

<image:caption>A timid pheasant bursts in a blur through the marsh. Ring-necked pheasants are not native to the UK, but Asia instead, probably introduced by the Romans a thousand years ago, but these beautifully-coloured gamebirds have adapted so well that they now breed in the wild en masse, and have become a staple of the British countryside. They are rife with predators, especially popular with game hunters, so they have good reason to be this cautious, although one pheasant I met months ago was the pure opposite.</image:caption>

They were specifically of the species Grapsus adscensionis, related to the impressively acrobatic Sally Lightfoot crab of the other side of the world. From my research, it actually turned out to be a newly witnessed species called the Canary Islands chiffchaff, and I soon saw the bird myself, in the top-right corner of this photo. <image:caption>Lastly, I saw many introduced parrot species throughout the week, especially by the same beach with the ruddy turnstones, including ring-necks of course, which I occasionally witness in the UK and even at home there sometimes. Here’s a noisy flock of nanday parakeets. Thank you for seeing this blogpost and I can’t wait til I come back on holiday again!</image:caption>

<image:caption>My first sightings of the ruddy turnstones. These little waders get their name from their habit of turning stones over to find food on the beach. Though I’m less of an expert on waders and I have not seen turnstones before, I have also known them to be found in the UK, and as you’ll see later, there are many more familiar British birds here.</image:caption>

Seeds and fruits are much better for birds than clumps of bread and chips, unlike what the harmful childhood stereotype might have you believe, so take care feeding them.</image:caption>

Not to mention the beautiful clouds rolling on the ground, the landscape is exotically prehistoric, right out of the Triassic period, not a shoot of grass in sight. Indeed, an episode of Chased By Dinosaurs was filmed there.</image:caption>

Though the bills were rather pink, I really couldn’t find any other analogue to the birds on my deep research.
